TAKING CARE OF YOUR EYES

WHY EYE EXAMS ARE IMPORTANT

Early detection and proactive management play a pivotal role in preserving good visual health. Regular eye exams serve as an important preventive measure for the timely identification of potential eye diseases and conditions. By detecting issues in their early stages, prompt interventions can be implemented, minimizing the risk of irreversible damage.

mODERN TECHNOLOGY

BETTER TOOLS, HEALTHIER EYES

Our team is passionate about using modern diagnostic and treatment technologies to better serve our patients. Our modern assessment tools help us provide accurate diagnoses so we can offer a bespoke approach to each individual patient.

This is a comfortable, virtual reality–based test that measures how well you can see in different areas of your vision. It helps us detect and monitor conditions like glaucoma and other eye diseases that may affect your peripheral vision—often before you notice any changes yourself.

We use gentle and precise methods to check the pressure inside your eyes, which helps detect and manage glaucoma. The iCare tonometer provides a quick, comfortable reading without eye drops, while Goldmann tonometry offers highly accurate measurements to protect your vision.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a painless imaging test that captures detailed cross-sectional pictures of your retina and optic nerve. It helps us detect and monitor eye conditions like glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease—often before symptoms appear.

Retinal imaging is a quick, non-invasive test that takes detailed pictures of the back of your eye. It helps us detect and monitor conditions like diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, retinal holes, retinal detachments, and other changes—often before you notice any symptoms.

EXPERT EYE CARE BROOKLIN

COMMON EYE CONDITIONS WE TREAT

Keeping your eyes healthy is important for maintaining a fulfilling quality of life. Some eye conditions are common and predictable, with certain age ranges and demographics being more susceptible than others. Learn about some of the eye diseases we’re looking out for and what can happen if they’re left untreated.

Cataracts

Cataracts are a natural clouding of the eye’s lens that can cause blurry vision, glare, or difficulty seeing at night. They tend to develop gradually with age, but they can also result from injury or other eye conditions. At ERC, we:

  • Check for Cataracts During Routine Exams – using a bright light and magnification to look for lens changes.
  • Monitor Cataract Progression – tracking how cataracts affect your vision over time.

Provide Guidance on Treatment – while early cataracts may be managed with updated glasses or stronger lighting, surgery may eventually be recommended when vision becomes more affected. If surgery is needed, we’ll help guide you through the referral process to trusted specialists.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is often called the “silent thief of sight” because it can cause vision loss without symptoms in its early stages. To carefully track and manage glaucoma, we use:

  • Eye Pressure Testing (Tonometry) – gentle and precise ways to measure eye pressure.
  • Visual Field Testing – checks how well you see in different areas of your vision.
  • OCT Scans – provide detailed images of the optic nerve and retinal layers to detect early changes.

By combining these tests, we can create a personalized care plan to help preserve your vision.

Macular Degeneration

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a common condition that affects the central part of your vision, making tasks like reading and recognizing faces more difficult. Early detection is key to slowing its progression. At ERC, we use:

  • OCT Imaging – gives us a detailed view of the macula, helping us detect even the earliest changes.
  • Retinal Photography – provides a clear picture of the back of your eye for ongoing monitoring.

With these tools, we can track changes over time and work with you on the best strategies to protect your central vision.

Diabetic Eye Disease

Diabetes can affect the small blood vessels in your eyes and may lead to vision loss if not carefully monitored. At ERC, we use:

  • Retinal Imaging – provides detailed, high-resolution pictures of the back of your eye.
  • OCT Angiography – allows us to see the layers of the retina and assess blood flow for early signs of diabetic changes.

These tools allow us to catch even subtle changes early, so we can help protect your sight for the long term.
